The best way to reduce bullying in school is to stop it before it can happen. Teachers, principals, counselors, parents, and children need to be made aware of what bullying is and then make sure that they all work together to stop it from happening. If a bullying situation does present itself, these stakeholders must all be on the same page and be harsh on the bullies right from the beginning. Some sort of intervention must take place and the child should not just receive a little slap on the wrist. It needs to be dealt with directly and swift action must take place. Schools need to have parents and students understand that their will be consequences for bullying and that it is strictly prohibited in and out of school. A proactive approach must be taken and some sort of document should be sent home and signed that lays out the bullying policy. All people should sign off on it and a copy should be sent home. Parents must be told exactly what will happen to their child if they are caught being a bully. Bullying behavior can occur everywhere, so the school must take the lead and stop it.
