People who get their television from sources like www.directstartv.com have heard it all over the news: bullying and fighting in the schools. And this is not limited to public institutions as reports of deadly hazing from private institutions are becoming more prevalent.

Believe it or not, there used to be a time where public schools did not require metal detectors at the doors or professional hall security guards, but things change – sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst. If you work in the school system then you have no doubt heard the term conflict resolution, but what are some of the pros and cons?

Pro – Reduction of violence
In theory, anyways. By teaching students to settle their differences in a non-violent manner you are promoting the reduction of violence in the school.

Con – Non-violence is not always the solution
Let’s face it – some people have an axe to grind and no matter how nice or polite you are to them, they will not be satisfied any other way.

Pro – Prepare children for the adult world
Ideally, mature adults are meant to settle their disputes through non-violent means. It is how our society is presented and you want the children to know that they have other options other than their fists.

Con – On school grounds
If conflicts are not brought to a complete resolution on the school grounds, they could boil and spill over into the neighborhoods and you will not be able to do a thing about it when that happens.

In the end, conflict resolution must be approached with an attitude of enthusiasm but cautious skepticism. It can be the answer, but it might need to be adapted to handle certain situations.

Teachers are under stress every single day and here are five ways to reduce teacher stress. First, teachers must feel like they have the ability to discipline students without have repercussions upon them. The policy should be firmly followed, and controlling behaviors is one of the biggest stressors for all teachers. It also takes away a great deal of time from actually learning in school. The second thing they need is time throughout the day to relieve some stress and tension. This is one of the hardest jobs in the world, and teacher do need daily downtime if they are going to be as great as they can be. The third thing they need is job security. Teachers that excel should not have to worry about being moved involuntarily. This causes stress throughout the year, and puts anxiety in the minds of the teachers. The fourth way to reduce stress is by providing them with some incentives. It would be great if all teachers knew that they could have an early out from school or some other reward for their great teaching. The final stress reliever is to always let them know that you care about them every single day.

The best way to reduce bullying in school is to stop it before it can happen. Teachers, principals, counselors, parents, and children need to be made aware of what bullying is and then make sure that they all work together to stop it from happening. If a bullying situation does present itself, these stakeholders must all be on the same page and be harsh on the bullies right from the beginning. Some sort of intervention must take place and the child should not just receive a little slap on the wrist. It needs to be dealt with directly and swift action must take place. Schools need to have parents and students understand that their will be consequences for bullying and that it is strictly prohibited in and out of school. A proactive approach must be taken and some sort of document should be sent home and signed that lays out the bullying policy. All people should sign off on it and a copy should be sent home. Parents must be told exactly what will happen to their child if they are caught being a bully. Bullying behavior can occur everywhere, so the school must take the lead and stop it.

The most important thing when establishing classroom routines and procedures it to be consistent. This has to start at the beginning of the school year. The teacher has to do the same process every morning and for every subjects. After a week or so of consistent produces are following the same routine the student will watch on. They will learn what is expected of them for each class period or subject.
The teacher also has to review the routines and produces with the students. The teacher has to explain step by step what the students have to do . The teacher should do this the first couple days of school. That way an uncertainties or questions from the students can be cleared up immediately. The teacher also has to review procedure periodically so the student know the teacher will not forget about them. Also this serves as a reminded to the students in case they forget or a new student enters the classroom.
The teacher needs to hold the same expectations for all students. If one student is allowed to deviated from a routine or procedure other student will pick up on this immediately. The teacher must treat all students the same and expect the same thing from them in order for a procedure to work.

An inclusive classroom consists of children with varying needs and abilities, including those who have been identified with special needs. The teacher or daycare provider with an inclusive setting should be prepared. One very important thing to remember is arranging a space with a variety of learing areas, such as a large group section for teaching the group and other areas that are more isolated; some learners need a little time away from the group to settle or for better concentration. Is this new to you? Catch up here The teacher may want to have an area with soft mats where children can rest when it is time for a break. It is also important to remember that every child learns best in a different way. Some are visual, some need auditory experiences such as music and instruments. Others are tactile and need to have hands-on experiences. Other children learn best when they are on the move. Teachers should pay attention to which students require proximity with an adult to optimize learning. There wil be some children who work best with a desk by themselves with fewer distractions and others that do well in a cooperative learning situation. The inclusive classroom should have many centers for learning opportunities.
